Best Techno Bars and Clubs in Cyprus

Looking for a spot to listen to your favourite DJs, hang with a cool crowd and discover new tracks? We’ve put together a list of the best techno bars and clubs in Cyprus to help you get your weekends sorted.

Pre-2020, techno-oriented venues and events were fewer and less well-known on the island. Since then, electronic music like techno and house have become much more popular and as a result, tons of crews, venues and events have popped up. There’s now usually something happening every weekend, whether it’s a full-on rave party, a festival or a techno night—you just need to know where to look!

So let’s take a trip through the electronic music scene in Cyprus, and some of the best techno bars and clubs to make your nights memorable. 🛸

Cyprus’ electronic music scene

Techno music has become an integral part of the clubbing culture in Cyprus, with cities like Limassol and Nicosia at the forefront of the electronic music scene. While Ayia Napa originally cemented Cyprus’ position as a clubbing destination with its famed club district, attracting both local and international DJs, Limassol and Nicosia have become the new hotspots for techno lovers on the island.

In these cities, techno music has made a serious mark on the clubbing culture, with a variety of clubs and bars offering a mix of techno and electronic music nights. What’s more, the underground techno scene has been thriving, with local DJs and producers contributing to the growth of the genre in these cities.

Best techno bars and clubs in Limassol

From pulsating beats to cutting-edge sound systems, Limassol offers an electrifying experience for those seeking the best techno venues in the country. Whether you’re looking to dance the night away or immerse yourself in the underground music scene, Limassol has something for all techno aficionados.

We love this spot for its unmatched vibes, diverse crowd and excellent selection of international and local DJs that they regularly host including the likes of Echonomist, Fiona Kraft, Pat Siaz, and Colyn.

Founded in 2016 and nestled in a traditional building along the captivating Zik Zak Street in Limassol, Mason Bar has undergone a remarkable transformation. Once an old carpenter’s shop, it now stands as a meticulously designed bar adorned with local materials like stone, wood, and plants. Evolving over the years, Mason has become the go-to spot for savouring unique signature cocktails, relaxing with a beer in its hidden backyard, and crafting indelible memories dancing the night away.

2. Dusty Munky

The vintage style of Dusty Munky’s garden is reminiscent of Budapest’s famed ruin bars, giving it a uniquely cool vibe and a place for visitors to sit and take a breather from the dance floor. They also offer up some great cocktails to try out while you’re listening to one of the resident DJs, other local artists, or international guests. Events have included Dalton, Kontello, Anna Reusch, and Tania.

3. Sousami

This LGBTQ+ friendly cafe, bar and concert venue has been a favourite amongst electronic music lovers for a number of years. Sousami offers a great selection of refreshing cocktails as well as a cosy outdoor seating area to sit and enjoy the beats. Although Sousami has a more laid-back atmosphere, they regularly host techno and house music events from DJs such as Penny K, Patsas, Shiromary, and Dan Lo.

4. Kesh

A trendy and relatively new edition to the Limassol nightlife scene, Kesh Lounge can be found on the 1st floor of Limassol Agora. Owned by local DJ, Kostas Kritikos, the night club dons a Function One sound system and Moroccan interiors. The space is small—when inside, the interior brings to mind trendy NYC micro-clubs, like Outer Heaven or Jolene Sound Room. It’s this vibe combined with the various techno and house DJs that Kesh club hosts that make it a venue worthy of Limassol’s nightlife hub status. Events have included Komilev, Darksidevinyl, Guy Mantzur, and Kadosh.

5. Hangar ETKO

This warehouse-style club was unveiled during Beonix 2023 as one of the stages for the event. The industrial interior, unique layout of the space and impressive lighting system made Hangar a favourite amongst festival-goers. So much so that it has since became a permanent fixture for electronic music events. Despite this, the venue has encountered issues with licensing which has lead to several events being rescheduled or closing early. We hope the Hangar team can fix this though because it’s definitely a space unlike any other in Cyprus currently. Some DJs that Hangar has hosted include Giorgia Angiuli, Colyn, African Stevenson, and Hozho.

Honourable mention: Guaba Beach Bar

Known more commonly as simply Guaba, this famed spot started in 2006 as a humble beach bar for like-minded souls to hang out, connect and listen to some great music. It grew to become one of the top clubs in the world (ranked 13th by DJ mag) and has hosted some of the biggest names to set foot on our tiny island. If you’re looking for a unique, fantastical experience, Guaba is a must-try for electronic music lovers. Past events have included Innellea, Fedde LeGrand, Martin Garrix, and Artbat.

Best techno bars and clubs in Nicosia

While the capital is arguably not quite on par with Limassol’s selection of techno clubs and bars, there is still a decent lineup of venues. Whether you’re looking for a party atmosphere to get your rave on, or you simply want to have a few drinks to the sound of your favourite tunes, Nicosia’s growing techno community is ensuring more and more options for you to choose from.

1. S//IP Club

Recently renovated, and Nicosia’s prime techno and electronic club, S//IP has a more European, underground feel that makes the experience just that little more authentic. It has a nice dance floor that is fully visible from all areas of the club, awesome music, and an overall nice atmosphere. It’s very emblematic of the free-spirited, open-minded, in-it-for-the-good-times rave culture that true aficionados embrace. They feature a lot of local DJs including Paradise X, Alex Tomb, Manic Mike, and Socrates.

2. WSTD

This small club is known for its excellent music and good drinks but ventures away from the typical rave experience with a more high-end approach. If you’re looking for a more traditional club night out but with techno, WSTD is a good option. They play exclusively electronic music, so you can visit any night it’s open to listen to your favourite local DJs. Past events have included Pat Siaz, DJ K, African Stevenson, and Pazzi.

3. Blurry Lights

A relatively new addition to Nicosia’s nightlife, Blurry Lights is a super cool bar with friendly bar staff, world-class cocktails, and delectable bites to eat. Their music style is electronic-forward but not so much techno. Instead, you’ll hear more funky beats and house tunes. But Blurry Lights is well worth a visit, even if you’re a hard techno head, thanks to its lively atmosphere, great mix of people, and of course, fun selection of arcade games. DJs include Vinyl Mafia, Tania, Andrea, and Aparapira Parape.

4. Swan Cocktail Bar

Another new edition to Nicosia’s growing array of nighttime venues, Swan Cocktail Bar is nestled just inside the Capital Centre on Makariou Avenue. It makes the most of its location by holding events within the structure of the complex, making for a unique music and dance experience. The bar hosts a variety of different nights, with more mainstream events too, so if you’re looking for electronic, be sure to check out the schedule beforehand. DJs have included African Stevenson,  Tania, Klauzz, and Karbi Cruz.

Honourable mention: Swimming Birds

With its relaxing atmosphere, quality drinks, and regular rotation of local electronic DJs, Swimming Birds is a great option in the old town of Nicosia for when you want to sip some good drinks, catch up with friends and listen to great music while you’re at it. Keep an eye out for their street parties which usually attract a lively blend of people who take to the streets to dance.

Best techno bars and clubs in Famagusta

Sun, sea and sandy beaches—a setting that makes for some great parties during the summer. When it comes to venues, however, Ayia Napa and Protaras are somewhat lacking in what they have to offer, despite their abundant array of bars and clubs. Here’s what you should keep in mind though.

Tulum Beach Bar

Tulum feels like a traditional beach bar you might find on a Caribbean island. No frills or fancy dress codes like you’ll find in many of Europe’s beach bars. There’s a super relaxed vibe that amps up for some energetic dancing during events. If you catch this beach bar on one of its regular days, it might be hard to imagine the amazing atmosphere and party vibes when it goes into rave mode. They’ve hosted DJs such as Paradise X, WaveRunner, Penny K and ADJK.

Honourable mention: Castle Club

We couldn’t complete this list without mentioning Castle. One of the biggest clubs in Cyprus as well as one of the most famous, Castle Club has been a favourite in Ayia Napa’s club district amongst clubgoers for over two decades. There’s not a lot of authenticity to be found here, but if you’re in the area and looking for a club playing techno music, it has a separate arena just for that, with arenas dedicated to other genres as well. The music is decent enough, and they occasionally host events for various crews.

Time to explore Cyprus’ techno scene

This is just a small selection of the bars and clubs where you can find techno nights and events on the island. Thankfully, more and more venues are opening all the time. Let us know in the comments which is your favourite bar or club to go to. We might add it to the article!
